Terrified and withdrawn,an aging canine once locked away in rescue facilities for months is gradually figuring out what genuine affection feels like,after her life took a warm turn thanks to her foster caregivers.

Foster carer Sophia told Newsweek in a TikTok message that Daisy was transferred to I Heart Dogs Rescue and Animal Haven located in Warren,Michigan.Before the relocation,the old dog had stayed locked up inside a Tennessee shelter with high euthanasia rates for roughly three months,ever since February.No one knows much about Daisy’s early life,yet shelter workers suspected she suffered long-term neglect or mistreatment before being rescued.They added she was the most emotionally shut-down pup they had cared for in recent months.

Even facing such tricky conditions,a local couple chose to give the nine-year-old dog a second shot at life and took her home as a foster pet in early May.Sophia posted updates on her TikTok handle sophiaheikaa20,admitting Daisy struggled badly to adapt to household life at first.One video posted on May 12 captured Daisy hiding inside the family bathroom,steering clear of every human contact as she felt unsettled in the strange living space.To ease her panic,the couple sat flat on the cold bathroom floor beside her,offering gentle comfort however they could.

According to Sophia,Daisy holed up in the bathroom for nearly seven straight days before she finally calmed down and let her guard drop.Step by step,she dared to walk outside on a leash and wander around the residential neighborhood.She later settled down comfortably on fluffy pet beds laid out with soft blankets and plush toys.As the shy dog slowly opened her heart,the foster pair grew deeply attached to her.Just two weeks into the fostering period,they made up their minds to adopt Daisy legally,signing the official adoption paperwork on May 14.

Daisy still shows occasional jitters from her past trauma,but she has grown accustomed to steady daily routines and feels far more at ease.Two little joys have become her biggest source of security:creamy peanut butter treats and a cozy memory foam mattress made for pets.

“We adore her wholeheartedly and spoil her rotten every single day,”Sophia shared.“Our biggest wish is to rebuild her broken faith in humans,and let her realize not every person will hurt her.”

This heartwarming outcome means a lot,since aged shelter dogs always get far less attention from potential adopters.Back in 2021,a research paper released by the Animals journal analyzed data from 975 sheltered dogs across regions.The research outcome showed senior canines waited an average of 26.4 days to get adopted,while adult dogs only waited 19.8 days,and young puppies spent merely 14.8 days in shelters on average.

Many people turn down senior pets out of false beliefs,assuming old dogs cannot build close bonds with new owners.The ASPCA has refuted this wrong idea in a published article.In fact,older dogs boast mild temperaments,adapt well to household settings and often come with basic training,making it simpler for owners to form tight emotional bonds.Apart from bonding worries,plenty of adopters hesitate due to potential medical bills and concerns over shorter companionship time with aging pets.

“It fills my heart with immense joy knowing Daisy will spend all her remaining golden years away from cold shelter cages,”Sophia expressed emotionally.
